Graham Stewart, D.Litt
Deputy Dean and Associate Professor, Faculty of Arts and Design
Durban University of Technology

Graham Stewart’s research interests encompass both Southern African literature and digital technologies, and he is currently Associate Editor, Verbal Arts, of the Encyclopaedia of South African Arts, Culture and Heritage (ESAACH) and leader of the Durban project team. His ESAACH research continues his long-standing interest in bringing South African literary and cultural heritage into a networked digital domain, making these resources widely accessible to readers, researchers and learners. In the 1990s he collaborated on an electronic encyclopaedia project at the Centre for the Study of Southern African Literature and Languages, and subsequently joined the KwaZulu-Natal Literary Tourism Project group. He has published in the fields of literary criticism and education, while web-based teaching and learning have influenced his work in academic development. He has supervised postgraduate students in Library and Information Studies and in English Literature, and is a member of the editorial committee of Alternation: Interdisciplinary Journal for the Study of the Arts and Humanities in Southern Africa.

He holds a BA degree and a University Education Diploma from the University of Natal; BA Honours from the University of South Africa; MA from the University of Natal; and D.Litt from the University of Durban-Westville. He also has an Advanced Certificate in Television Arts from Natal Technikon.
